Mayor of Pittsburgh visit

L-R Gillian Taylor, CDT CEO; Fiona Robertson, CDT Chair; Bill Peduto, Mayor of Pittsburgh; Jim Leishman, Provost of Fife and Andrew Croxford, CDT Vice-Chair

We were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Pittsburgh, Bill Peduto to Dunfermline at the end of the COP26 Climate Conference. Dunfermline and Pittsburgh share some strong historical links as Andrew Carnegie made his fortune in Pittsburgh steel and General John Forbes, of Pittencrieff House, named the city.

Mayor Peduto visited the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum, the Glen, Pittencrieff House and the Abbey. The Provost of Fife held a Civic Reception in Dunfermline City Chambers for him on the evening of Saturday 13 November and then he went to visit a real Dunfermline pub!

On Sunday 14 November, the Mayor was guest of honour at the Remembrance Sunday event where he laid a wreath on the cenotaph from the people of Pittsburgh.

We learned a lot about sustainability and how the parks in Pittsburgh are funded. We told him about the ideas that we gathered for Pittencrieff House during our park ‘conversation’ in the summer and are looking forward to building on this unique relationship we have with Pittsburgh.
